What the ratio measures

The ratio is the gold price divided by the silver price, using the same weight and period. At 80:1, one ounce of gold has the same reference price as 80 ounces of silver.

A high reading does not guarantee that silver will rise or that the ratio will return to its past median. The selected time window matters, and earlier observations span different monetary systems.

Physical exchange rates also depend on the products you own and the prices dealers actually offer. Use the calculator as a scenario, not a trading instruction.
